NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are primary care practitioners who can treat various general health conditions by blending modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. The root philosophy of naturopathic medicine is based on the healing power of nature. As such, your naturopathic doctor will take time to assess your individual needs and utilize treatments that may include a combination of botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine and dietary and lifestyle modifications in order to support and stimulate your body’s ability to heal itself and to restore and optimize your health.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR FIRST VISIT
- Before your visit, you will fill out an intake form to give us a snapshot of your current health and an overview of your chief health concerns. This may take some time, so please arrive 10-15 minutes before the visit. Also, please bring a list of your current medications, supplements and/or botanical medicine along with the copies of your most recent blood tests and other relevant health exams that you feel important to show your naturopathic doctor.
- During your visit, your naturopathic doctor will meet you for 60 minutes to take a thorough health history and may also conduct some physical exams and prescribe any laboratory tests that are relevant in order to complete an assessment and diagnosis.
- After your visit, your naturopathic doctor may give you some ‘homework’ to further investigate your case. She may even connect you with the appropriate medical sectors if deemed necessary depending on the severity of your case. In any case, you can be well-assured that you will be well-taken care of!
*Most extended health insurance plans in Canada cover naturopathic treatments. Please contact your insurance company to determine if you are covered.
